Hi Michael, This conference takes place next January 2011. So, no papers available yet. I am not organizing the conference, so I am not sure about what will be available. The material I will present comes from my book, Zionism and the Roads not Taken:Rawidowicz, Kaplan, Kohn. So, feel free to take a look at the book if you want a sneak preview of at least one presentation.

You can direct specific questions about the conference to the UCLA Center for Jewish Studies.

Noam,

I find your approach sophisticated and interesting. I've been developing a similar approach to Israel Diaspora relations, which like yours looks at these issues from a broader perspective of community building and Peoplehood today. You might find this report on the "Best Practices of Peoplehood organizations of interest": http://www.nadavfund.org.il/events/?prId=68

The only point that I'm not entirely comfortable with is your tendency to speak of "The State of Israel". I don't disagree with your main point but think it might be more productive to place more emphasis on the multi-faceted nature of Israeli life and to encourage American Jews to pick their partners and develop a stake and opinion about where they stand and a commitment to act; which, is I think you point about Israel education, not advocacy.
